Amazon Food : Case Study

Amazon Food: Food ordering app with Delivery option This is a personal project. I was not commissioned by Amazon to design their Food app. What is Amazon Food? Amazon food is a platform where foodies will be able to order delicious foods from multiple restaurant in a single check out. The biggest advantage is that the user can track nutritional value of foods also. Why did I choose Amazon Food concept? Some weeks ago, I started using a food delivery app because I wanted to eat some really good food. Unfortunately, I ended up heading out for lunch instead, because the food that I wanted to eat was available at different restaurants and it took time to get delivery of the food to my doorstep. So, from that, I got an idea about this project. I thought of Amazon Food because I was a frequent user of Amazon and wondered what would happen if they add this food delivery feature. I wanted to work on real product problems. Problem Statements: Most of the user-facing some issues while ordering food from different restaurants in a single checkout. The App doesn’t easily recommend restaurants, foods based on the rating given by the users, the restaurant staff will be informed of the improvements. The App doesn’t have a feature of tracking the nutritional level of foods like protein, carbs, and fat and total calories and gives data to our fit users. Sometimes, the payment method is not very easy and not very detailed like what if the user wants to check the detailed invoice after selecting the payment method. Solutions: Adding the feature of ordering from multiple restaurants in a single checkout. Adding the feature of Bestsellers and Highly recommend options for users. Adding the feature of a nutritional tracker where users can track all the nutritional values of the food they want to order. Adding an easy payment option with a detailed invoice feature. Project Timeline

With all of the details being highlighted about the project by the timeline, I have spent 4 weeks on this project from the initial research to the final UI.

Initial Research

What if Amazon comes in food Ordering Industry?

It has been more than a year since Amazon first announced its foray into the sector, starting with a pilot in limited areas in Bengaluru in May 2020. Very little has moved ahead.

But why can’t we see Amazon competing with one of the leading food delivery industry Swiggy & Zomato?

Let’s figure out some good & bad point about amazon Food launch.

How can we give a life to amazon food once again? (My assumtions)?
  • Adding some Cards/discounts/offers a coupon on UI helps to attract user attention.
  • Good UI is the key for amazon food for a new start as their competitor doing great when it comes to UI.
  • To make a brand stand out, The nutrition tracker feature is important as no one has this feature.
  • Ease of payment is also a great feature that boosts the amazon food selling ratio.

I have added 3 goals that I covered on my amazon food project.

Concept Mapping

User Persona

I have designed the user persona and figure out some Goals and Frustrations facing by the users.

Journey Mapping

In the beginning of study, I conducted an 4 interview with several participants with different professions who use online food delivery app regularly. After talking with people about their experience and expectation about food delivery app , I design Journey Mapping & Persona and figure out some pain & gain points and challenges facing by the users.

A most common answer about why do you Food Delivery App
  • Not having enough time to cook
  • Too busy On work from home.
  • Bored of nearby food options
  • To lazy after the whole day sitting & working in front of laptop/ Desktops.

User Flow

Wireframes

After I made a few sketches, I started a low-fidelity design (wireframes) as wireframes are regarded as the skeletal view of a product. For this project, I used Figma for both the wireframe and high-fidelity designs. The wireframe helped me to focus on key functions, elements and actions before proceeding to the high-fidelity (hi-fi) designs.

Visual Identity

For the Product to be Identifiable by the users, it should have a name.

Product Name : AMAZON FOOD

BUT WHY AMAZON FOOD?

So, the answer is very simple. Since Amazon is very simple in terms of naming their products and this is a very easy approach for the users as well as to understand the simplicity of the product.

FOOD, where different cities have different tastes and the preparation methods, To unite them all the word “Food” is taken and it’s also the expression of celebrating the eating habit and culture.

when you Focus on the logo, you saw the happy face of the customer,it’s customer satisfaction.

BUT WHY GREEN COLOR?

Now a days, people don’t have much time to cook fresh food they just order from restaurants hoping the food is fresh as home. So, not to breaking the trust of the people, I decided to pick the fresh color from color palettes and that is “GREEN”. Basically, reason behind choosing this color is only to give the app a fresh and healthy vibes.

Final Prototype

The Amazon Food project was fun and awesome as I learnt new things regarding to user interface and experience design, the food industry, etc. Also, I tried to create a simple, functional and minimalistic app to improve the experience of users at the time of placing food orders.
